This Stays in the Room
This Stays in the Room is a collective creation that HHG Theatre co-artistic directors Alexa Devine and Mindy Parfitt have been working on for a couple of years. The process started with the themes of shame and forgiveness. All the contributors have dared to walk bravely with strength and humour into personal experience of being shamed or shaming. Forgiveness is fascinating exploration as each person’s relationship with it’s significance greatly varies. The play is entirely based on truth.
This Stays in the Room is being mounted at Gallery Gachet, a co-operatively run art gallery on East Cordova. We’re very excited to produce the play in this space. In particular we’re interested in exploring the cross pollination of visual art and theatre in a way that impacts how we design the piece. The gallery will be open during the days of our run, so we are working with the idea of the set as an installation. Through the workshop process we have generated more material than can possibly be included in the play. The installation aspect of the piece will allow us to include these other stories in visual and aural ways. As well, we are working with the collective who runs the gallery to incorporate their visual art skills and personal stories into this installation. This form of exchange is an exciting opportunity to envision the piece from a different perspective and hopefully exposes our company’s work to a new audience. We like the idea of art gallery patrons being able to interact with our piece without the piece actually physically taking place.
Come check it out March 20-30 2014
