Onwards and upwards! Special Thanks

HHG Theatre is very grateful for the tremendous amount of community support that we received during our recently-closed production of Except in the Unlikely Event of War, which closed on Saturday November 30 with two packed performances that nearly blew the roof off with raucous laughter and thoughtfully-provoked shock and awe. If you didn’t catch the show, you missed a critical hit that we hope to breathe some new life into over the next few months.

We here at HHG Theatre wanted to extend our personal thank yous to everyone who worked on the show. Not everyone’s work gets recognized in the reviews, and sometimes the audience is simply not aware of the dedication and craft on display. So let’s tip our hats to:

  • Richard Wolfe: a director / dramaturg extraordinaire, and now a comrade-in-arms and good friend.
  • Pi Theatre: our co-producer, for taking on the lion’s share of duties and responsibilities, and for taking this risk with us.
  • Robert Moloney: a true sympatico at the political level, a fine actor, and a selfless human being.
  • Josette Jorge: as funny as she is charming, and a rock-solid professional. This one shows up to work, fershur.
  • Lucia Frangione: a skillful advisor and sure-handed performer, lending much gravitas and experience to her roles, both onstage and off.
  • John Webber: a trusted colleague of HHG Theatre if ever there was one, this man is not only a fine designer, but he’s the definition of what we look for in a collaborator.
  • Candelario Andrade: a guerilla theatre artist with a camera, the man put in more hours than he ever thought possible, and his skillful blend of make-shift and polish made for a spectacular show. Smooth guy to work with.
  • David Mesiha: it is ridiculous that the work of this brilliant sound designer did not get more mention. The guy is a work-horse and a wizard, and a treasure to have inside the rehearsal room. HHG Theatre has found another collaborator.
  • Barbara Clayden: Tasked with the impossible, she wouldn’t complain if you paid her to. She figured out the maze of costumes that was necessary not only for the production, but a film shoot as well. A lovely lady.
  • Yvan Morisette: what a beautiful work of art he created in our set. And there’s just something about how he conveys how much he enjoyed reading the script that assured me I was onto the right track.
  • Lois Dawson: she will be HHG Theatre’s stage manager until she no longer wants to. Hopefully, that day will never come.
  • Christie Maxson: the best underpaid backstage soldier around, and a lovely bit of quiet sass to have in the room.
  • Jessica Harvey: the Jackie-of-all-Trades whose confident insights were often enough more valuable than my own. When she wasn’t providing her useful outside eye as Assistant Director, she was line producing our film shoot and organizing our Protest Lounge. In the end she probably made $0.17 an hour.
  • Jayson MacLean: if his hair wasn’t already gray, it would have grayed during this  project. He was taked with raising the Titanic on a budget that could barely float a dinghy, and he got it done. He’s a McGuyver.
  • Kristen Johnson: Her graphic design kung-fu is second-to-none. She answered the bell time and time again. Will we hire her again? Damn straight.
  • Naz Shoja and Belinda Bruce: the fine support team at Pi Theatre, called in when support was need most.
  • Jeremy Banks: too bad you weren’t around to enjoy the fruits of your labor, but you definitely helped to get us there, so here’s us tipping out hat.
  • Tim Matheson: for the gem photos, the fantastic gear, and as always, the cheeky advice.
  • Laura Murray Public Relations: we are so glad we finally got to hire these guys, the finest PR flacks in town. We could always tell just how dedicated they were to their work, and how behind the show they were.

Special thanks also go to actors Vincent Gale and Donna Soares who labored long and hard on many workshops to help get the script to where it needed to go. For several reasons they weren’t involved in this production, but we’re grateful for their contributions.

Special thanks also go to Terry, Steve, Nita, Matt, Matt and everyone else at the Roundhouse Community Centre for their well-practiced professionalism.

Special thanks also go to Heidi Taylor, Kathleen Flaherty and everyone at Playwrights Theatre Centre for offering up not only their sage advice, but the warmth of their new rehearsal space on Gore Avenue (when it wasn’t freezing).

THAT’S IT FOR NOW. THANKS FOR COMING OUT TO THE SHOW.
