NEW WORKS
New Works
2025 New Play Tuesday:
HHG is partnering with the Ottawa Fringe’s Undercurrents festival to produce New Play Tuesday! This year, NPT will have 4 excerpts (20-30 mins) of new works read by professional actors on the evening of Feb 11th, followed by a talk back with the audience. This is a chance for new texts to be heard by audiences and for playwrights to get feedback from audience members during their writing processes.

Future productions:
In the summer of 2021, recognizing the plethora of artists in our communities looking to develop new works after the COVID-19 shut down, HHG launched a call for proposals for development. We received over 20 submissions.
2021 Call for proposals
Under the new artistic leadership of Artistic Director Mary Ellis and Artistic Producer Kyle Ahluwalia, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (HHG) is offering help to Ottawa- and Gatineau-based creators to workshop their new creations.
While English is the working language at Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, they are open to supporting theatre projects in other languages through a translator, hiring cultural or language consultants, or other supports as appropriate.
Projects will be provided 35 hours of rehearsal or workshop time as well as budget for core creators (writer, director, dramaturg, etc.), performers, and some production staff (PM, SM, technicians) based on the needs of the project at its current state of development. This workshop is intentionally flexible to be able to adapt to the needs of the projects, with an expected overall budget of $7,500-$9,000 per project.
To apply, submit a proposal of up to three pages or 10 minutes by email to info@horseshoesandhandgrenades.ca before August 24, 2022, outlining the following:
- Your project and its current state of development
- Your ideal framework for support (i.e. what are you looking for in terms of help: dramaturgy, outside eyes, space, etc.)
- Names and bios of main artistic collaborators
- If available, relevant artistic sample(s) for THIS project. This may be a script (or part of a script), photos, audio or video recordings, or any other relevant artistic content.
