DIY Set Building – “This Stays in the Room”

As you’ll be hearing soon, our new piece This Stays in the Room represents a lot of firsts for HHG Theatre. It’s our first collective creation, our first time using our own lives as ‘content’, and our first site-specific piece, as we’re producing this bold, new work at Gallery Gachet in the DTES.

And…it’s the first time we’ve invited the community into the design experience. Director Mindy Parfitt and Production Designer Andreas Kahre are leading a workshop on the themes of Shame & Forgiveness (which plays large in This Stays in the Room) where the objectives were to have a frank discussion about the themes, then to do some individual writing, and finally to take all of what was generated and transfrom it onto a chair.

These chairs will then be what the audience is seated on during the production!

As you’ll see from these photos, we’ve already got a diversity of expression taking place. And there’s more to come. This free workshop will continue on February 18. Anyone who’s interested should contact mindy@horseshoesandhandgrenades.ca
