This Stays in the Room – Chair Workshop

This Stays in the Room is a collective creation theatre piece which uses the themes of shame and forgiveness as a springboard for creation. Incorporating true stories, the play also addresses how a story changes as it gets repeated over time.

This Stays in the Room will be produced at Gallery Gachet from March 19 -30 2014. An important part of mounting a play in an art gallery is to explore the connection between visual and performance art. For this reason we are designing our set as a stand-alone exhibit held in the gallery between nightly shows.

This exhibit, in part, will contain 50 chairs that will be used by the audience. We’re inviting you to be a part in the design and creation of these chairs in a free workshop.

Old Theatre Chair

The workshop will take place over two evening sessions from 6:30-9:30 PM. The focus of the first workshop will be to discuss the themes of the play, generate images and text using personal stories as inspiration and begin to design and create the chair. Interactive group activities will be used to initiate this creative process.

The second evening will focus on completing the chair.

Each participant will be supplied with a chair as a base. Other materials and tools will also be provided for adding to or deconstructing the chair. All chairs will remain the property of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades Theatre.

Join us for this fun, creative process and help create a theatre set one chair at a time! To register, send an email to Mindy Parfitt at mindy@horseshoesandhandgrenades.ca
